Mental Health Awareness

Challenger is hosting our first annual Mental Health Awareness Week between April 30 and May 4.  Students will learn about the different categories of mental health like stress, anxiety, and anger.  They will also learn some ways of handling these kinds of issues and where to go for help. 

Parents are invited to attend some events on our big day, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 by joining our students in one of the following activities at 7:15 AM, followed by a Principal's Chat and Parent Workshop:

8:00-8:45 AM Parent Workshop - The Teen Brain: Exploring Factors that Influence Adolescent Decision Making with Dr. Orletta Nguyen, School Psychologist

Come and learn about the complex minds of your teens and pre-teens! Together, we will delve into the cognitive, developmental, and neurobiological factors that impact and influence adolescent development.  Come and gain a deeper understanding of why adolescents make the decisions they do and how these factors influence learning.

9:00-10:00 AM Principal's Chat with Ms. Kate Dominique, Vice Principal Mr. Donny Tenorio, and the Challenger Counseling Staff

We will focus on issues that impact our adolescents such as stress and anxiety, and how young people cope.  Learn about the harmful effects of different coping strategies and tips to prevent access from our counselors.
