Hand washing

Washing your hands throroughly is the best prevention for spreading any germs and viruses. 

Additional Tips:

  • Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Limit your exposure to sick people and if you are sick yourself, try to limit contact with others.

Common Cold: Most people recover from the common cold in 7-10 days. The CDC has suggestions on how to relieve the symptoms of a cold.

Flu: In the CDC fact sheet, they recommend a three-step approach: get a flu vaccination, early treatment, and preventative measures.  Before your student returns to school, he/she must be fever free for 24 hours without medication.

Hepatitis A: San Diego is currently experiencing a severe outbreak of Hepatitis A.  While this is not an issue at any of the schools within the San Diego Unified School District, it is important to be aware and understand what can be done to prevent its spread.  SDUSD Nursing and Wellness has created a Fact Sheet (English) (Spanish) with information about the virus, how its spread and prevention tips.
