EcoSquad Continues to Grow!

Due to the amazing efforts of the EcoSquad and cafeteria team including Chef Sam Esparza, our Garden to Café program is the best in the district!  Challenger is the first place winner of this year’s Garden to Café Harvest Contest!  This year, we harvested a total of 129 pounds of produce for our school cafeteria with a total of 15 harvests.  Phenomenal work!  Challenger’s Garden to Café program will receive $200 donated generously by The Village Garden Club of La Jolla.
We want to express our very sincere appreciation to the community for the support of our school garden sponsored by the EcoSquad with a special shout out those businesses and individuals listed below:
-    Joe Kehoe from Kehoe Roofing Services (858-549-7988) – Improving the stability of the greenhouse.
-    Alan Jehamy from SoCal Solar Brokers (619-957-2224, www.socalsolarbrokers.com) - Supplying us with a solar panel to help teach the importance and powerful tool of renewable energy.
-    The Sahai family for donating a large composter to help keep food waste out of the landfill and improve our garden’s soil.
-    San Diego Ag in the Classroom – Provided a grant of $300 as part of the Youth Garden Stand program so we can start selling whole, uncut, fresh fruits and vegetables to the school community.
Thank you to everyone who had been part of the team to make this a successful learning program for our students!
