CMS Student Selected as a Carson Scholar

Carson Scholar Fund

We are proud to announce that one of our students, Janelle Duong, will be recognized as a Carson Scholar and awarded a $1000 scholarship during a banquet in May!

The Carson Scholars Fund is a national competition which has recently reached out to improve the participate rate in California.  They have established a level within San Diego County and Challenger began the process for our students to be included in the process.  The Carson Scholars Program recognizes academic excellence and humanitarian qualities in students enrolled in grades 4-11.  Schools must select one student to participate at the local level.  Over thirty students at Challenger who met the grade point average requirement submitted an application indicating their volunteer efforts and essay written about one of the two topics provided by the fund.  A committee at Challenger selected the following students as our school winners:First Place: Janelle Duong, 8th Grade - Her name will be submitted to the local level to compete against other students within San Diego County

Second Place: Olivia Boose, 7th Grade

Third Place: Michael Tran, 7th Grade

Thank you to all the students who participated in the contest and the judges who took on the task of determining the winners from all of the outstanding entries!  A big thank you goes to English teacher, Mrs. Rostrata, for her extra time and assistance to help our first place winner to polish her essay before final submission to the local level.  Finally, congratulations to Janelle Duong, who we are proud to have represent Challenger in the county competition!
