Award-winning Author Reaches Out To Students

The students in Mrs. Tiffiny Jackson’s 6th grade English class became big fans of poet and author Kwame Alexander after reading some of his books including The Crossover which won a John Newberry Medal and Coretta Scott King Award for distinguished children’s literature.  In The Crossover, Mr. Alexander uses verse to immerse his readers into the world of adolescent twin brothers whose interests have been focused around basketball.  With the help of loving parents, they learn about growing up and becoming individuals.

Our students used poetry to express their appreciation of Mr. Alexander’s writing style and shared it on Twitter.  We are very excited that Mr. Alexander responded to their post!
