PE at Cabrillo
Physical Education programs in our public schools are on the decline. Cabrillo Elementary is one of a handful of schools in the district that has a PE program taught by a credentialed professional. We are fortunate that during school hours we have exclusive use of the Cabrillo Recreation Center's Tennis Courts and Sports Field. We are one of a few schools that offer a grass surface for PE and recess to our students.
Kelly Touhill, our PE teacher, has put together some information on the program at Cabrillo Elementary:
PE at Cabrillo is a fun-filled hour of activities each week focused on strength building, endurance and life-long skills in sports! Students are provided opportunities to participate in sports such as tennis, hockey, golf, soccer, lacrosse, dance, softball and much more. Students have access to the 'PE Mini Gym", a fitness room designed to promote balance, strength building and of course, fitness!
There is an educational component to PE. A large part of the PE program at Cabrillo focuses on Health, Social Skills, Sportsmanship and Character. Our students learn about nutrition and the names of the bones and muscles! We have a Character focus each month and learn how to become a good Team Player.
When students return to class from their physical activity, it is guaranteed that their blood is pumping lots of fresh oxygen to the brain, readying the mind to grow so they can learn better.
Come join us at Cabrillo's PE program and enjoy the benefits of exercise and knowledge combined!
