Cabrillo Awarded $12,400

check presented to Cabrillo

The Point Loma Optimists have long been a partner with many schools in the Point Loma area.  They provide many opportunities for students and schools to become better places to education children.  This last spring the Optimists Club approached Principal Hightower to see what they could do to help improve Cabrillo Elementary School.  After much discussion it was settled the Point Loma Optimists would raise funds to help improve the Cabrillo Library.  "We were hoping to get a few computer stations so students could do research while in the library and get a few more books on the shelves." stated Mrs. Stokely, Cabrillo Library Assistant.  What came next was an amazing surprise to everyone.  On May 6, 2017, the Point Loma Optimists raised $12,400 for the Cabrillo Library during a paddle raise to donate funds to our school library.  "I was brought to tears to see how much our local Optimist Club cared so much about the children in their neighborhood!" exclaimed Mrs. Hightower, Principal of Cabrillo.  Cabrillo will now be able to afford a laptop cart with multiple laptops so groups of students can research or learn library skills, a larger monitor for Mrs. Stokely to teach from when demonstrating to students, and over $4,000 in books.  On June 5th the Point Loma Optimists presented the check during our monthly awards ceremony as a surprise to the students and staff.
