Magnet Program

Benchley/Weinberger is a dynamic, high-performing, California Distinguished School with a focus on achievement through communication. Our goal is for all children to develop a passion for learning by providing a challenging curriculum and teaching high-level communication skills across all content areas by way of technology, collaborative conversation, and project-based learning.  Children experience rigorous, common core standards-based lessons, designed purposefully to meet the needs of every student.

Media Lab, library, and classroom devices are used to support and enhance teaching and learning.  Students produce, film, edit, direct and star in our news station and create our Panda Xpress Newspaper.  Field trips to theater performances, museums, floating biology labs, along with art lessons, sign language, music, dance, theatre, film making, Physical Education, and in- house cultural assemblies address the multiple learning styles of our students.  Our Panda Pal program regularly matches older and younger students for further communication opportunities and social skills building.

Our ethnic diversity promotes a positive awareness and understanding of many cultures by way of our “School with Heart” (c2012) program, calling upon our entire learning community to honor all people.  By signing our “Heart” contract, all stakeholders commit to: practicing respect, speaking up for themselves and others, advocating for their own learning, positively resolving conflict, remaining curious, and being of service.

Benchley-Weinberger offers a school-wide GATE program to all students in all classrooms.
