Dear Bell Families and Community,
Welcome to Bell Middle School, where we are committed to making sure we provide “a world class experience” to the Bell community. Our focus this year is on creating a culture of achievement through collaboration. We believe collaboration is the foundation of a strong learning culture. I expect that ALL Bell learners (students, staff and families) will participate in collaborative settings. Our work cannot be done in isolation. And if we do the same things we did in previous years, we will get the same results. Instead, I believe we should all seek growth and improvement.
Speaking of improvements, Bell has spent the last two years under a physical improvement project. Prop S and Prop Z bonds have afforded us an opportunity to get several upgrades, including air conditioning, a public announcement (PS) system, new carpet in some classrooms, renovated bathrooms, a soccer field, a American Disability Act baseball field and a few other structural upgrades.
Here at Bell the energy level is high and there is excitement about teaching and learning. We offer two foreign language classes: Spanish and Filipino. Each class is designed for students to learn how to speak and write the designated language; and learn about the customs, history and cultures associated with that language. Bell is a very diverse campus and we are looking for parents and/or community members to join our staff in celebrating the beautiful and rich diversity that makes Bell complete.
We offer two sections of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and several of our teachers our AVID trained. College and Career Readiness is important to us. We want our students dreaming about a bright future and working to make those dreams a reality.
We take much pride in our award-winning band and orchestra program where students are able to demonstrate their skills, talents and appreciation for the arts. We want our students to be well rounded and balanced. We want to see them thrive in the classroom, on the stage and in the community. We have a partnership with UCSD to beautify our campus and tutor our students. We have a partnership with Blacks in Government (BIG), San Diego State University and the Union of Pan Asian Communities (UPAC) to provide mentoring to our students. We extend an invitation to other organizations to provide services to our youth. We look forward to working with you this school year.
We welcome parents and community to be a part of our growing village. My vision is to have a campus that is clean, welcoming and collaborative. I realize that there is a gap in the ideal state of my vision and our current reality, but I am dedicated and excited about working with all of you to reach that ideal state. There is not an easy way or one correct way of making it happen, but we must come together to build caring and respectful relationships amongst the staff, students and parents. Collaboration is the foundation of a strong learning culture. I expect that ALL Bell learners (students, staff and families) to be actively involved in our growth this year. Everyone plays a valuable role. We must provide an academic, social and physical environment that is worthy of all of our children. That includes my five year-old-daughter who could attend Bell one day.
Remember, It takes a village.
