ALBA Community Day School is a comprehensive middle and high school for students to support students with behavioral and academic needs. Here at ALBA, our staff balances our students’ academic, emotional, and social needs.   Our smaller class size allows us to foster communication and relationship with our students.   Our teachers are well qualified in their subject area and strive to individualize lessons based on students’ needs and levels.  Besides academics, our school offers a wide range of support and activities including community services, mental health counseling, Big Picture Learning, PE, art, music, language, and cooking classes.

From San Diego Unified School District Website:

 Community Day School

The purpose of the community day school is to help a student become stabilized in terms of both education and behavior in order for them to successfully transition to their traditional comprehensive school. The community day school provides a high-quality educational program that builds academic skills, and fosters social and emotional growth.

The district's community day school program is the ALBA (Alternative Learning for Behavior and Attitude) Community School. Students enrolled in ALBA remain up to one year. Students are placed in ALBA in one of the following ways:

  • Placement by the district's Placement and Appeals office pending an expulsion hearing.
  • Referral by the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and the Probation Department.
  • Pro-Actively through a process agreed and determined upon from Principa to Principal based on identified needs

Most students return to their traditional schools after a semester but may remain for up to one year, depending on their term for expulsion. Some students who are seniors may complete their graduation requirements while at ALBA and graduate from the program.
