WHAT: Just in time for Earth Month, San Diego Unified is announcing the Love Food Not Waste San Diego Unified School District food recovery and rescue program. This pilot program offers an avenue for leftover food from the school meal program to be diverted from the landfill to hunger relief efforts. In the month of February 2017 the pilot program rescued more than 7,000 pounds of food, equating to more than 5,900 recovered meals.  (YTD:  25,500 recovered meals)

WHAT: Student musicians from 12 San Diego Unified School District high schools will perform at the Jacobs Music Center Symphony Hall. Students will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on the San Diego Symphony stage.

The students were selected by audition to perform major band and orchestral works under the direction of guest conductors Albert Jeung, Director of Orchestras in the Capistrano Unified Schools District and Dr. Shannon Kitelinger, San Diego State University Director of Bands.

WHAT: The boys soccer teams from Patrick Henry and Hoover high schools will participate in the first CIF San Diego Section Soccer event at Qualcomm Stadium this Friday and Saturday. Henry will take on San Pasqual High today at 3 p.m.; Hoover High will play St. Augustine Saturday at 11 a.m.
