Unified in Pride: Join the San Diego Unified marching contingent in the SD Pride Parade

In the summer of 1993, a small group of educators came together to form the first-ever school marching contingent in the San Diego Pride Parade. They met with little fanfare, carrying a banner that read, “A Closet Is No Place To Teach,” taking the first steps in a march that would grow into a vibrant annual tradition.

26 years later, several members of that first intrepid group will be carrying their original banner in the Pride Parade this Saturday. While there will be some familiar faces, much has changed since that first march.

SAN DIEGO - With students and staff out for summer break, Pacific Beach Middle School is ready for construction. 

Crews started the first wave of the Whole Site Modernization this week to remove two aging buildings: the existing two-story wing of classrooms, and the existing administration building. A new two-story classroom hall will replace two aging buildings on the Northeast corner of the campus, along Diamond Street.

What’s in the 2019-20 Budget: More Money for Teacher Salaries, Student Wellness, Safety and Enrichment Programs

The San Diego Unified School District Board of Trustees formally adopted the 2019-20 budget proposal and funding priorities this past Tuesday, setting in place a balanced fiscal plan for the next school year while increasing teacher pay.

The budget of more than $1.3 billion reflects strategies developed with stakeholders and partners for the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The budget plan defines how the district will prioritize funding in keeping with guiding principles outlined in the LCAP.

San Diego Unified Commemorates the “Other Class of 2019” at Celebration for New Retirees

As schools bid farewell to the Class of 2019, it’s not just students who are poised to take on a new chapter of their lives.

Following a whirlwind of commencement ceremonies throughout the San Diego Unified School District, another group of “graduates” celebrated a rite of passage.   

San Diego Unified honored its 2019 retirees at the annual Retiree Celebration, which was held on the lawn at the Ed Center. Under the shade of the blooming jacaranda trees, 190 retirees celebrated with family, friends, and colleagues.
