District launches new website

Posted: Tuesday, August 25th 2015

After weeks of anticipation and months of planning, the district launched its new website at a new web address – www.sandiegounified.org. (The old address www.sandi.net automatically redirects to the new website.)

The district redesigned its website in order to create a more user-friendly, easy-to-navigate site where new and returning visitors can find timely, relevant information.

The new site is organized topically rather than by audiences and department, and many of the most popular actions, such as enrollment and finding a job, are accessible directly from the home page. It’s also designed to be more user-friendly for mobile phone and tablet users.

“We believe this change is a positive step in our overall efforts to strengthen communication with our parents, prospective parents and community at large,” said Chief Public Information Officers Ursula Kroemer. “Information on our district and school websites is geared toward these audiences and the redesign makes it easier for them to find information most relevant to them.”

The launch of the new website complements the district’s new staff portal that contains information specific to staff and the Newscenter, which provides a one-stop-shop for online visitors to learn about the great things happening throughout San Diego Unified.

“We want visitors to be able to find important information – even if they don’t know which department is responsible for doing it,” Kroemer added. “For individuals looking for departments, there is a department listing under “Directories” and an A-Z index to help people find other topical information.”

For example, items like “Safe Schools - Anti Bullying Harassment & Intimidation” can be found under “District Initiatives. “Special Education” can be found under “Programs.”

School websites have been moved to the new web platform to improve functionality, but their layout remains the same. Parents will continue to find important information on their school website relating to day-to-day operations.

The new website will continue to evolve as additional needs are identified. The district welcomes your feedback at communications@sandi.net so that we may continually improve the site experience.
