District Celebrates 2016-17 Retirees

Posted: Friday, June 16th 2017

Employees, family members and honorees gathered Thursday to celebrate the careers of the more than 1,240 employees that are retiring from San Diego Unified this year. Many of the retiring employees had tallied 30 years of working for the district, and a handful had dedicated even more - over 40 years in some cases. Their legacy of service and dedication cannot be measured in these numbers alone, as the positive impact they made in San Diego schools will be remembered for years to come.

Superintendent Cindy Marten, Board of Education President Richard Barrera, and Trustee Sharon Whitehurst-Payne were there to thank the retirees and congratulate them on retirement.

The annual event was held on the lawn of the Education Center and featured refreshments from Food Services and music provided by the Monroe Clark Middle School band.

For those who were unable to attend, Certificates of Appreciation will be mailed to the home address on file.
