Health Technician Janice Roy Named Classified Employee of the Year

In title, Janice Roy is a health technician. In practice, Roy is a nurse, mom, gardener, leader and ambassador. It’s those collective qualities that led Roy to be named San Diego Unified’s Classified Employee of the Year for 2016.

Roy and more than 100 other classified employees were honored by the district at its annual Classified Employee of the Year celebration at Kearny High School. The event is held during Classified School Employee Week, which is designated each year as the third full week of May.

Bell was saluted for her successes in giving San Diego Unified "a shared vision for student and staff wellness, in large part because of Michelle Bell’s dedication and efforts to promote wellness," according to the provider's website.

'Locally grown' is the theme in cafeterias on California Thursdays

It's local, local, local on Thursdays in cafeterias throughout the San Diego Unified School District.

Following a successful one-year pilot, San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services has expanded its California Thursdays program to all schools – making San Diego Unified the fastest growing California Thursdays district in the state. Now, more than 130,000 students throughout the district have the option to eat a meal made entirely of California-grown food every Thursday.
