San Diego Unified SuperHeroes March in The San Diego Pride Parade

Nearly 100 students, staff, family and friends joined The San Diego Unified School District’s San Diego Pride Parade contingent in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, intersex and asexual community for the third year in a row. Superintendent Cindy Marten, San Diego School Police Chief Littlejohn, school officials and several of San Diego Unified’s Youth Advocacy team came out and marched the 1.1-mile-long route. Over 100,00 spectators attended the parade route through the heart of San Diego’s gay community in Hillcrest.

San Diego Unified Students and SD Pride Youth Marching Band Celebrate San Diego Pride

Thursday morning The San Diego Unified hosted a San Diego Pre-Pride Party on the front lawn of the Education Center complete with LIVE music from the San Diego Pride Youth Marching Band, arts and crafts and an overall fun time celebrating and supporting the district’s LGBTQIA staff and students. This year The San Diego Unified School District’s contingent is “Superhero” themed together with the districts year round messaging of being “United with Pride” with all of its LGBTQIA students, staff and faculty.

Mira Mesa High School Receives Adaptive Sports Equipment from The Challenged Athletes Foundation Club

Last week Mira Mesa High School received adaptive sports equipment that will significantly enhance their sports and recreation programs for students with physical challenges.The Mira Mesa High School Challenged Athletes Foundation Club(CAF) is the first High School CAF Club in the nation. Students raised funds for the equipment and were presented an adaptive basketball hoop and other specialized sports equipment for their school’s adaptive sports program.

Central Elementary 3rd graders kick off 4th of July Weekend with 10th annual Educational Camping Trip

Third graders from Central Elementary School in City Heights kicked off their 4th of July weekend with a Summer Camping trip. For the 10th year in a row 3rd grade students experienced typical camping rituals, like sleeping in tents, eating s’mores, sharing stories and singing songs around the campfire. In addition to experiencing the fun of camping, the students were exposed to a standards-based learning experience that included Kumeyaay Indian history, storytelling, artifact exploration, a birds of prey presentation, owl pellet dissection and native plant and composting education.

Dailard Elementary garden blooming thanks to parents, partners

Four years ago, a blacktop lot stood vacant next to Dailard Elementary School in San Carlos. It was at that time when Andrea Loyko, now a first grade teacher, and Gail Broatch, a parent of two students, began to transform the area into a beautiful school garden.

With the help of Transitional Kindergarten parent Diana Bergman, the Parent Teacher Foundation and a large donation of wood chips from the City of San Diego, the garden has grown into a blossoming space for education and enjoyment.

City renames street to honor Mira Mesa High's 40th year

There's no more confusion over where the Home of the Marauders is located. Mira Mesa High School is now on Marauder Way.

As part of the school's 40th anniversary celebration, the City of San Diego has renamed a portion of Reagan Road that circles Mira Mesa High School to Marauder Way, in honor of the school's mascot.
