Encanto Elementary students learn to reduce, reuse and recycle

Picture this.  An outdoor garden living room made from repurposed furniture.  A bin full of rich compost made from school salad bar scraps.  Strikingly beautiful garden murals painted onto recycled wood slabs.  Bird feeders made from cardboard toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, and birdseed.  Germination kits made from plastic lunch containers.  Bins of empty cans and bottles ready to be recycled.  Labeled buckets waiting near the cafeteria tables, ready to collect food, milk and packaging waste during lunchtime.

Lincoln High dedicates new courtroom facility for mock trials, criminal justice classes

Students, staff, and respected professionals from the legal field recently came together to celebrate the opening of a new courtroom facility at Lincoln High School. 

Built with the help of a generous donation from Sony Electronics Inc., the courtroom will be used by Lincoln’s Mock Trial Team and for criminal justice classes as well as the SAY San Diego Teen Court diversion program.

Baker Elementary to reveal mural featuring Americans and others of influence

WHAT:  Baker Elementary will reveal a new mural featuring individuals who have used their knowledge to influence the world in positive ways, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez and Barrack Obama. Some local heroes are included as well. Andrea Rushing, a popular local artist who has a studio in Barrio Logan, began working on the mural last school year.

Love is the theme for Kindness Week at Kumeyaay Elementary

As a way to kick off its week of kindness, Kumeyaay Elementary gathered all students for its annual rainbow picture and honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by selecting “love” as its theme for the week. 

To promote equity and equality, the school selected a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
