Bird Rock Elementary students changing world, themselves one good deed at a time

“Be Part of This World and Not Just in It” is the motto that Kristi Nelson’s first-grade students at Bird Rock Elementary practice each and every day.

The students have taken part in community outreach efforts that include gathering school supplies for students in Houston after the floods, to gathering clothes for needy children, raising funds for endangered animals and caroling for local businesses and senior centers.

Zamorano fourth graders receive big surprise at recent Padres game

They didn't know it yet, but the Zamorano Elementary fourth graders making their way to Petco Park were in for quite a surprise. 

The four students and their families were heading downtown to a recent Padres game after being selected to take part in a special on-field ceremony. Before the game, the kids and their school's principal, Derek Murchison, were brought out on the field, joining Padres star player Wil Myers in front of the cheering crowd.
