SCPA, students shine at Ben Vereen Awards

The San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, and one of its students, Jazley Genovese, were award winners at the 2016 Ben Vereen Awards, which selects the best of high school musical theater in San Diego county.

Genovese was selected as Best Actress, while SCPA's production of Chicago was the Best School Performance Winner.

Genovese, along with Cameron Chang from the Canyon Crest Academy in the San Dieguito High School District, will advance to the June 27 Jimmy Awards (National High School Musical Theatre Awards) at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City.

Business group salutes 120 SD Unified Schools

State Associate Justice visits PB Middle to salute civics education

California Associate Justice Joan K. Irion visited Pacific Beach Middle School to honor the school's winning a 2016 California Civic Learning Award of Distinction.

Associate Justice Irion, from the Fourth District Court of Appeal, visited the school May 23 and learned about the International Baccalaureate World School’s community service projects and visited with the students.

Pacific Beach Middle was one of just six schools in California selected to receive the Award of Distinction, the second-highest honor for the Civic Learning Awards.

State's Chief Justice visits Kumeyaay Elementary to honor civics education

California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye said she was "inspired" by her visit to Kumeyaay Elementary School in Tierrasanta, one of three schools in the state to receive the Award of Excellence in California's Civics Learning Award Program.

Lincoln High hosts communications program for students, parents, police

Farb Middle School one of 35 selected to participate in 
AVID national pilot

Farb Middle School is one of 34 secondary schools across the nation to pilot AVID’s (Advancement Via Individual Determination) new Secondary Integrated Implementation Tool.

The integrated tool will systematically combine current measures to: document fidelity of implementation for the AVID Elective; monitor progress toward AVID Schoolwide implementation; and identify schoolwide Sites of Distinction. The program began this month.
