Longfellow Giraffes Celebrate First Stretch of Construction on New Playfield

SAN DIEGO – Longfellow Spanish Immersion Magnet School’s “Giraffes” are now one “hoof” closer to their new joint-use field, with the start of construction on their 50,000 square-foot grass playfield in the Bay Park community of San Diego.

To celebrate, the school’s ballet folklórico joined Superintendent Cindy Marten, City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell, Principal Diana Sanchez, and district leaders in a groundbreaking celebration held Friday, Sept. 27.

Two Logan Heights Schools Mark Historic Construction Milestone on First-of-its-Kind Prenatal-to-Career Educational Complex

SAN DIEGO – It was history in the making in July for Logan K-8 and Memorial Preparatory for Scholars and Athletes, as both schools celebrated the hoisting of the final steel beam on what will become the TK-8 portion of the Logan Memorial Educational Complex. 

The campuses are transforming into a single comprehensive TK-12 educational complex. When complete, the complex will house the first high school in Logan Heights’ history.

Logan K-8 Principal Jose Villar said the beam, along with the project, symbolizes more than just new buildings in Logan Heights.

NEWS RELEASE - Wave of Improvements Arrive at Pacific Beach Middle School as Demolition Starts Campus Transformation

SAN DIEGO - With students and staff out for summer break, Pacific Beach Middle School is ready for construction. 

Crews started the first wave of the Whole Site Modernization this week to remove two aging buildings: the existing two-story wing of classrooms, and the existing administration building. A new two-story classroom hall will replace two aging buildings on the Northeast corner of the campus, along Diamond Street.

SAN DIEGO - Newly graduated eighth-graders who broke ground on the Whole Site Modernization project at Horace Mann Middle School in March 2017 commemorated the new three-story classroom and administrative hall with a ribbon-cutting Tuesday. 

Students spent their years learning growth, teamwork, and equity, but they also watched the debris of the old classrooms transform into a now modernized landmark on the border of the El Cerrito and Colina Del Sol communities.

NEWS RELEASE- Demolition begins on the Complete Rebuild of Emerson-Bandini Elementary School

SAN DIEGO - Construction crews began demolition last Monday at Emerson-Bandini Elementary, on what will become an entire site transformation.

The project team spent time planning a new vision for the school site; they gathered input from the community, staff, and parents on how to create a space where students could feel inspired. Crews plan to complete the demolition and begin building by fall of this year.
