Six SDUSD high schools recognized for athletics success, CIF championships

The auditorium was packed for the January 22nd Board of Education meeting as six San Diego Unified high schools were recognized for their athletic teams' accomplishments.

Student athletes, coaches, family members, and school staff were on hand to celebrate the spectacular Fall 2018 atheltics season, which produced six CIF Champion teams from San Diego Unified. Among these teams were the 2018 California State Champion San Diego Cavers football team and the Mira Mesa Marauders Cheer squad, who recently won the first ever CIF championship in cheerleading.

San Diego Unified recognizes 2018 Teachers of the Year

Georgeanne Gedney, early childhood special education teacher at Linda Vista Elementary, Sara Dickman, dance teacher at CPMA and Lynsey Littlefield, special education teacher/ASB advisor at Mission Bay High School are San Diego Unified’s 2018 Teachers of the Year.

The three teachers, along with three Teacher of the Year runners-up and more than 50 site teachers of the year, were honored at the annual Day of the Teacher event held at De Portola Middle School.

Students, district raise awareness during National Bullying Prevention Month

Eliminating bullying and hate from school campuses is a district priority year-round, but one that takes center stage during National Bullying Prevention Month in October.

Schools throughout the district are holding events and activities that support diversity, encourage tolerance and discourage bullying while the district is working this month to strengthen its efforts to support the LGBTQ student population.
