Henry's ECOLIFE AquaPonics garden may be drought solution

IN THE NEWS: Environmental Club at Patrick Henry High School students have designed, engineered and installed an aquaponics garden on the San Carlos campus. With a grant from ECOLIFE Conservation, plus support from the San Diego Downtown Kiwanis Club and Cox Communications, the students will study the minature ecosystem's use of water and how it might impact water conservation efforts and drought relief.

The aquaponics garden gives students a way to conserve water and still have green space on campus.

Students in community to celebrate MLK birthday

From the 39th Annual Knox Middle School Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on Friday, January 15, to participation in the regional Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade on Sunday, January 17, to classroom teaching around the district and a federal holiday on Monday, San Diego Unified's students, teachers and staff are celebrating what would have been the 86th birthday of the civil rights leader.

University classes at high schools, thanks to UC San Diego, SD Unified partnership

IN THE NEWS: Pt. Loma, Univeristy City and La Jolla high schools offer college courses — taught by UC San Diego professors — right on their campuses under a pilot program, billed as the first of its kind.

Chargers surprise schools with bikes, sponsor holiday shopping

The San Diego Chargers surprised students at two elementary schools with bicycles, following a shopping spree with students earlier this month, as players from the NFL team joined students to celebrate the holiday spirit.

Miller Elementary School in Murphy Canyon and Chollas Mead Elementary in Chollas View welcomed members of the team's staff and players for the bicycle giveaway.
