Civil Rights Icon John Lewis Recounts Personal Experiences, Encourages Students to Vote in Visit to Morse High

Congressman John Lewis urged a gym full of Morse High School students on Friday to vote, letting a generation largely unfamiliar with his sacrifices know he was beaten bloody while fighting for their right.

“Never give up. Never give in,” Lewis said to the students. “Get registered and vote, and we must vote like we’ve never ever voted before. People gave their lives for it. Only thing I gave, I gave a little blood.”

Zamorano Elementary celebrates ‘Wellness Week’ with daily activities

After years of incremental changes toward healthier practices on campus, Zamorano Fine Arts Academy has found a way to coordinate their efforts into a new week-long event called “Wellness Week.” 

Guided by Principal Derek Murchison and school psychologist intern Courtney Meiers, every day of “Wellness Week” introduced a new health-related theme, each with corresponding activities and discussions for students, families and staff.

Zamorano fourth graders receive big surprise at recent Padres game

They didn't know it yet, but the Zamorano Elementary fourth graders making their way to Petco Park were in for quite a surprise. 

The four students and their families were heading downtown to a recent Padres game after being selected to take part in a special on-field ceremony. Before the game, the kids and their school's principal, Derek Murchison, were brought out on the field, joining Padres star player Wil Myers in front of the cheering crowd.

Students explore photography profession at Photo 360

More than 150 photography students from Morse, Mira Mesa, Lincoln, SCPA, Twain, Serra, La Jolla, Point Loma and Patrick Henry high schools got the chance to experience multiple aspects of the photography profession from professors at San Diego City College at the first Photo 360. Each student had a DSLR digital camera and rotated through four professional photo studio workshops during the day, which included photographing professional fashion models and learning about current photographic techniques as well as traditional film and darkroom processing methods.
