Ford dealers' scholarships go to Class of '16 students

San Diego County Ford dealers gave $1,000 scholarships to 27 San Diego Unified students from 11 schools as part of their annual Salute to Education Scholarships program.

Graduating seniors from Crawford, Hoover, La Jolla, Madison, Morse, Mission Bay, Patrick Henry, Point Loma, San Diego High, Scripps Ranch and University City high schools received the scholarships for their upcoming work at a college or university, part of a program that gives out 150 scholarships to San Diego County high school seniors every year.

Student-athletes shine as they head toward university life

The first official step on the road to a university education was taken by 30 student-athletes as they signed letters-of-intent with colleges and universities around the nation in a ceremony at the San Diego Hall of Champions.

The first day that high school athletes in fall sports can sign the NCAA Letter of Intent was Feb. 3 and student-athletes in sports that included football, girls soccer, field hockey, boys soccer and softball.

Growing, cooking, teaching are passion for Madison High chef

“It’s all about knowing where your food comes from,” Chef Emilia Zelaya says at the beginning of Culinary Arts class on a Monday morning at Madison High School. Monday is garden day, and the students spend the morning composting, pruning and planting. The garden is transitioning between seasons, but onions and strawberries still grow.
