The field beneath their feet may feel familiar, but these young women know that each step they take could be leading them to new world of opportunities when they compete in lacrosse on April 3. They will be facing off in a sport that many adults still do not know, playing for teams that did not even exist a few years ago, on the path to potential scholarships that could one day help them become the first in their families to attend college. These possibilities are some of the reasons that lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in San Diego Unified schools.

Six SDUSD high schools recognized for athletics success, CIF championships

The auditorium was packed for the January 22nd Board of Education meeting as six San Diego Unified high schools were recognized for their athletic teams' accomplishments.

Student athletes, coaches, family members, and school staff were on hand to celebrate the spectacular Fall 2018 atheltics season, which produced six CIF Champion teams from San Diego Unified. Among these teams were the 2018 California State Champion San Diego Cavers football team and the Mira Mesa Marauders Cheer squad, who recently won the first ever CIF championship in cheerleading.

Three Morse High alumni make history with football championships

It’s a historic year for high school football in San Diego – and for the three coaches leading their teams into regional title games this weekend.

For the first time in history, three San Diego Unified high schools will be vying for a shot at the CIF State Football Championship. Lincoln, Morse, and San Diego High have all advanced to the 2018 SoCal Regional Championship round, after each team earned the title of San Diego section champion in their respective divisions last week.

Johnson Elementary Receives $5K Grant from Barona Band of Mission Indians

The Barona Band of Mission Indians has awarded students and teachers at Henry C. Johnson Elementary School in San Diego a $5,000 Barona Education Grant.

The grant was sponsored by California State Senator Toni Atkins. Barona Tribal Vice Chairman Ray Welch presented the $5,000 check to students and Principal Tracey Jenkins-Martin.

Exceptional. That is the word we've been using to describe the Class of 2017 at Lincoln High School - and it couldn't be more true.

When it comes to measuring the accomplishments of a graduating class with so many incredible stories, one word doesn't do it justice. So the seniors from Lincoln High are happy to let the numbers speak for themselves: the Class of 2017 has received over 470 college acceptances, and also earned more than $9.5 million in scholarships.

School Police Give Porter Elementary Students a Tour of the Harbor
