That was the message conveyed to more than 500 students and parents who gathered recently to learn about UC San Diego as a college option at an “Evening with UCSD.”

Attendees were greeted by UCSD staff and students as they entered the auditorium. UCSD’s Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Juan Gonzalez opened the program, followed by other UCSD representatives who spoke about the admissions process, applying for financial aid and the career services available.

JROTC Holiday Food Drive nets nearly 40,000 pounds of food

On their own, each of the district’s 13 JROTC units gathered thousands of pounds of nonperishable food items for donation. 

Together, they amassed close to 40,000 pounds of food - 38,208 to be exact - as part of the JROTC annual holiday food drive. The drive is part of the JROTC Service Learning Project to support the city in collecting food during the holiday season.

Changes to Special Education focus on better quality instruction, serving more students across district

In order to ensure that students have access to quality instruction, opportunities for peer interaction and social development, and are able to engage as a member of a robust classroom community, the district has announced that some elementary school and K-8 moderate-severe classrooms will be combined into neighborhood cluster classrooms beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.

Golden nugget tangerines on school salad bars each Wednesday this month

Students (and school staff!) across the district can enjoy golden nugget tangerines on their school salad bars every Wednesday this month. Golden nugget tangerines are easy to peel, golden in color and have a bumpy texture. These sweet citrus come to us from Rockwood Ranch at Rancho Guejito in Escondido. Rancho Guejito has been farmed on since 1845 making the farm older than the state of California.
