Crawford High School and De Portola Middle School recognized by the State for their Civic Engagement

San Diego Unified is honored by Crawford High School and De Portola Middle School’s recognition as 2019 Civic Learning Award Recipients. The recognition celebrates the commitment of public schools to engage students in civic learning.   

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond made the announcement March 6 honoring 92 schools under this program.

Sky's the limit for San Diego students in "Girls Take Flight" program

San Diego's newest commercial drone pilots are ambitious, young, and changing the face of a historically male-dominated field. On January 11th, nine female students from Crawford, Hoover and Morse high schools graduated from "Girls Take Flight," a 32-week training and internship program managed by the Elementary Institute of Science. Seven of these girls also earned their FAA certification, meaning they are now qualified to operate certain drone aircraft for commercial use.

Students, district raise awareness during National Bullying Prevention Month

Eliminating bullying and hate from school campuses is a district priority year-round, but one that takes center stage during National Bullying Prevention Month in October.

Schools throughout the district are holding events and activities that support diversity, encourage tolerance and discourage bullying while the district is working this month to strengthen its efforts to support the LGBTQ student population.
