City renames street to honor Mira Mesa High's 40th year

There's no more confusion over where the Home of the Marauders is located. Mira Mesa High School is now on Marauder Way.

As part of the school's 40th anniversary celebration, the City of San Diego has renamed a portion of Reagan Road that circles Mira Mesa High School to Marauder Way, in honor of the school's mascot.

Top Mission Bay grads prep for commencement speeches

Mission Bay High School's top graduates — the school's co-valedictorians and salutatorian — are busy preparing their speeches for graduation day.

“I wanted to make something that everyone could relate to, but not be super bored by,” Kyra Forsyth, the co-validctorian, told the Beach and Bay Press. “Hopefully, they're going to laugh at (it). That was the hardest thing: making something funny so people would stay amused and entertained.”

SCPA, students shine at Ben Vereen Awards

The San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, and one of its students, Jazley Genovese, were award winners at the 2016 Ben Vereen Awards, which selects the best of high school musical theater in San Diego county.

Genovese was selected as Best Actress, while SCPA's production of Chicago was the Best School Performance Winner.

Genovese, along with Cameron Chang from the Canyon Crest Academy in the San Dieguito High School District, will advance to the June 27 Jimmy Awards (National High School Musical Theatre Awards) at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City.

The Educational Results Partnership and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence partners with leaders in the business community in a shared mission to ensure all students are prepared to success in college and career, saluting 1,714 schools in California.

'Salute to Excellence' honors top Class of '16 grads

The top one percent of San Diego Unified's Class of 2016—more than 75 students—were honored during the district's 10th annual Salute to Excellence.

Each of the students, including all high school valedictorians, were presented by their school's principal or another administrator and received certificates and medals noting their achievement during the event held at Sea World San Diego. Some of these students are the first in their families to go to college.
