Ancient Chinese arts enhance Barnard language studies

Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School students don’t just learn the Mandarin language… they eat, breathe, sleep, and dance it, too. Barnard students are instructed for 50 – 80% of their day in Mandarin, including in-depth instruction in the ancient Chinese arts.

Barnard Elementary chess team brings home the gold

Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School’s student chess team continues to collect trophy after trophy at local and national chess competitions. Six students spent Thanksgiving weekend at the American Open Tournament in Costa Mesa, one of the longest running chess tournaments in the USA.

Third grader Daniel M. took first place after winning all five of his games – an impressive clean sweep—in the K – 3rd grade U600 section. Second grader Jaxon W. competed in the K – 12th grade U1200 section and took second place after winning four out of five games.
