On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m., all San Diego Unified schools will take part in the Great California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake preparedness drill.
During the drill, students and staff will practice the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” procedure and safely evacuate to designated areas once the shaking stops. This annual exercise helps ensure that everyone knows what to do to stay safe during an earthquake and allows schools to test their emergency response plans and communication systems.
Your child may come home talking about the drill – feel free to ask them what they learned about earthquake safety and review these resources on how your family can prepare at home.
