Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Any child in grades K-8 (including transitional kindergarten), enrolled and attending during the regular school day at a site offering the PrimeTime program.  Applications can only be submitted online.

If my child is in the program now, do I have to apply for next year?

Yes, all families must reapply to participate in the program each year.  This includes students who are currently participating and those on the waitlist.

If I submit an application, does that mean I’m accepted?

Submitting an application does not guarantee participation in PrimeTime.  The demand for PrimeTime services at most schools exceeds the program capacity; therefore, it is extremely important applications are completed and submitted during the initial application period (2019-20 School Year: March 4-April 12, 2019).  Applicants are accepted into the program based on a rating system, up to the capacity for each school. Applicants who are not accepted into the program due to space availability are placed on the waitlist according to the number of points on their application.

Rating System (4 Points Possible)

1 Point: Child participating in PrimeTime during the 2018-2019 school year; or child on the PrimeTime wait list as of March 1, 2019.

1 Point: Single parent household; or families with one parent/guardian currently on military deployment (a copy of orders may be required upon request).

1 Point:  All parents/guardians living with the child are employed full time (40 hours per week) and/or are full-time students (enrolled with at least 12 units).

1 Point:  Child recommended for academic assistance by the District, based on the Standards Based Report Card for elementary level and course grades for the middle level.

When will I find out the status of my application?

All families who submit an application during the Initial Application Period will be notified via email by June 14, 2019.  Parents will receive either an Acceptance or Waitlist email notification.  All applications submitted after April 12, 2019, will be processed beginning in July and will also be notified of their status via email.

What if I move to another school?

Parents may contact the Extended Learning Opportunities Department at (858) 503-1870 or the PrimeTime Partner at the school applied for to have their application transferred to another school.  All transferred applications will go onto the new school’s waitlist according to the number of points on their application.

How can I find out where my child is on the waitlist?

Specific waitlist placement is not provided.  Students are placed on the waitlist according the number of points on their application.  The waitlist is fluid, as applications are received year round and waitlist placement may change. Parents may inquire as to the total number of students on the waitlist and may be given the range their application falls into on the list (i.e. bottom 20, top 10, etc.).
