Our Mission

In our Early Learning programs, we aim to nurture joyful, inclusive environments where every child feels seen, valued, and supported. Rooted in play, relationships, and exploration, we foster a strong sense of belonging and spark a lifelong love of learning.

Through hands-on experiences and caring guidance, our classrooms and teachers promote curiosity, creativity, and foundational skills in language, literacy, math, and social-emotional development. We partner with families and communities to build confident, capable learners ready to thrive in school and beyond.

Program Descriptions

Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full-day, optional grade that serves as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten. Open to children turning 4 by September 1, TK follows the elementary school calendar and bell schedule.

With two teachers in each classroom, students benefit from a supportive, nurturing environment where learning happens through play, exploration, and developmentally appropriate instruction. The TK curriculum integrates the California Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), building foundational skills in language, math, social-emotional development, and more.

TK offers young learners the time and support they need to grow in confidence, curiosity, and school readiness.

California State Preschool Program

The California State Preschool Classroom consists of 3 year-old age-eligible students. Each session is 3 hours and enrolls 24 students per session. This is where the partnership between the home and school begins as teachers and families collaborate to provide a solid foundation for each child’s growth and development.

Curriculum in this program provides opportunities for 3 and 4 year olds to develop the various academic and social skills needed to enter Kindergarten using the California Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF).

Interaction and engagement are core elements integrated within all lessons to ensure a welcoming environment for all children, where their growth and development are supported and nurtured.

ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) Program

The students in these classrooms have IEPs that specifically note separate setting and services. Placement is determined by the IEP team and student need.

The San Diego Unified School district provides special education services to students of preschool age through the Early Childhood Special Education Department (ECSE). ECSE is a state and federally mandated program for preschool children who meet the eligibility criteria with a federal handicapping condition. Eligibility for children is determined through an assessment process guided by established federal and state rules and regulations, based on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
