LGBTQIA+ History Month is coming up in October, and as always, we want to celebrate our students! The past years with our LGBTQIA+ flag raising have been amazing to watch folks come together and celebrate the beauty and strength of our community. Now more than ever, our community needs spaces to celebrate our stories and brilliance. Thank you so much for your participation over the past years in our LGBTQIA+ flag raising and student conference.
We have made a change for this year. We are no longer holding flag raising ceremonies. San Diego Unified will still be raising the flag at the Central Office on the pole all month. As an alternative to the traditional flag-raising ceremonies, this year, we are exploring new ways to honor and uplift our community's diverse and beautiful identities including digital media campaigns featuring student, staff, and family voices along with resource guides and tools to support teaching and learning.
As an alternative, our District will be leading campaigns to interview students and staff to honor identities during our monthly history and heritage celebrations. We are coordinating with them to connect students and staff who are interested in participating in this campaign.
Here is a flyer with more details.
If you or your student are interested in participating in this new LGBTQIA+ History Month campaign, please fill out the survey by September 15, 2025. Please be sure to fill out all of the required fields so the Communications Department can contact you. Student form
