Below you will find information you will need to submit an application for your child for San Diego Unified School District’s part-day preschool program offered to children who are 3 years old.

 

Eligibility for enrollment is determined through a ranking process with multiple factors including, age, family income and family size.

California State Preschool Age Eligibility Guidance

If a child was born between:

·       December 2, 2015 and December 1, 2016
Child is eligible to apply to TK/4 co-mingled program

·       December 2, 2016 and December 1, 2017
Child is eligible to apply to part-day preschool program

·       September 2, 2015 and December 2, 2015
Child is eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten

If a child was born on or before:

·       September 1, 2015
Child is eligible to enroll in Kindergarten

Children who have their third birthday on or after December 2, 2017, may be enrolled in the preschool program on or after their third birthday.

Eligibility Criteria

In order for a family to participate in the subsidized preschool program, families must meet one or more of the eligibility criteria.  Children from eligible families are able to participate in the preschool program at no cost.  Following are the eligibility criteria:

     1.   Family is a current aid recipient
     2.   Family is income eligible—Reference Income Guidelines
     3.   Family is homeless
     4.   Family has children who are recipients of child protective services, or are identified as at risk of being abused, neglected, or exploited.

Income Guidelines

Family gross income by family size must be within the state guidelines.  The income guidelines below is the maximum gross monthly income, before taxes or other deductions.  Please reference charts below:

Determining Family Size

 

Provide the names of all parents in the home as part of the application as well as the names and birth records for all siblings in the home who are under 18 years of age.  Please refer to list of appropriate documents for Birth Record.

Birth Record

The birth record must indicate the child’s name, date of birth, and the relationship of the child to the parent/guardian. 

Acceptable documentation for the enrolling child and siblings includes:

Birth Certificate

·     Birth Certificate

·     Birth Record from Hospital

·     Baptismal Record

·     School Records

·     Medical Records

·     Military Records

·     Court Orders Regarding Custody

·     Adoption Documents

·     Records of Foster Care Placement

·     County Welfare Department Records

·     Certified documentation from the U.S. Embassy that includes all family members

 

Proof of Income

 

Proof of Income must be provided for all parents in the home for the most recent 30 days.  Documentation must be consecutive and include all sources of family income.

 

Please provide all documentation that applies:

 

Proof of Income for All Sources of Family Income

·         Pay advice or pay stubs issued by employer

 

 

 

 

 

Documents must have consecutive dates and show income for 30 consecutive days of pay.

Provide all that apply:

·         Submit 4 paystubs if paid weekly

·         Submit 2 paystubs if paid bi-weekly or semi-monthly

·         Submit 1 paystub if paid monthly

 

·         Self-Employment/Business Owner

Provide a signed and dated written statement that includes the type of work/self-employment/business, estimated monthly income, frequency of pay, and method of payment along with supporting documentation.  In order to deduct business expenses from income earned, evidence of payments (i.e., receipts) must be provided.

 

Provide all that apply:

Ø  Bank Statements

Ø  Transaction or Trip Logs

Ø  Business Logs

Ø  Ledgers

Ø  Receipts

Ø  Any other business records that can show evidence of income/expenses

 

·         Paid Cash

Provide a letter from employer or personal written statement.

The following information must be included:

1.   Type of work done

2.   How often you get paid (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly)

3.   Income amount

4.   How paid (cash/personal check/electronic)

5.   Signature and date

 

·         Student Aid or Financial Aid Letter

The award letter for student/financial aid.

 

The following information must be included:

1.   Itemized cost of tuition

2.   Cost for educational materials

 

·         CalWorks (Cash Aid)

Provide Verification of Benefits or Notice of Action issued by County Office of Health and Human Services

 

The following information must be included:

Cash award must be dated within the most recent 30 days

·         CalFresh (Food Stamps)

Provide Verification of Benefits or Notice of Action issue by County Office of Health and Human Services.

 

The following information must be included:

Cash award must be dated within the most recent 30 days

·         Child Support

Provide child support award letter, court document with child support details, or personal written statement.

 

The following information must be included:

1.   Amount of child support received for the current month.

2.   Signed and dated or record of date filed.

 

·         Unemployment Benefits

Provide unemployment benefits (EDD) document.

 

The following information must be included:

Amounts received for current month

 

·         SSI

Provide SSI document or bank statement.

 

The following information must be included:

Amount received for current month

 

·         Self-Declaration of Income

Provide a written statement of any other type of income.

Including but not limited to:

1.   Family assistance

2.   Using savings

3.   Cash gift

4.   Using income tax return

 

 

Proof of Residence (Mail Date within Last 30 Days)

Provide current document of residency showing mail date within last 30 days.  Enrolling parent/guardian’s name must be present on the documentation.  Acceptable documentation may include but is not limited to one or a combination of the following:

  •          Utility bill (i.e., SDG&E, cable/internet, water, sewer, trash)
  •          Rental or lease agreement (signed within last 30 days)
  •          Mortgage statement or property tax statement
  •     Military housing orders
 

Immunizations

 

 Children entering preschool must have the following immunizations to start:

  •   3 Polio
  •   4 DTap
  •   3 Hepatitis B
  •   1 Varicella
  •   1 MMR (On or after 1st birthday)
  •   1 HIB (On or after 1st birthday)
