Choose the Web over the PDF

To meet our Accessibility Standards, we ask all web editors to prioritize posting content directly onto their web pages rather than uploading PDF files.

  • The "Flyer" Rule: Do not simply upload an image or scan of a flyer. Instead, type the event details (Who, What, When, Where) directly into the CMS text editor.
  • The "One-Click" Rule: If a user can read the information directly on your page, don't make them download a file to see it.
  • When to use a PDF: Only use PDFs for documents intended for printing or signature. If you must use a PDF, ensure it is created from a properly formatted Word document and never a scan.

3 Tips for Moving Content to the Web

  1. Copy & Paste: Copy the text from your Word doc or Flyer and paste it into the CMS. Use the CMS "Heading" tools to organize it.
  2. Use Accordions: If you have a lot of information, use the "Tabs" portlet to keep the page clean.
  3. Link to the Source: If you provide a PDF for printing, always provide the same information in plain text on the page for those who cannot access the file.
