Dear Taft Families,
This is Principal Garcia-Rubio with our weekly update. Online learning begins on Monday, August 31, 2020 and on behalf of the Taft Team, I'd like to welcome our new families, especially our incoming 6th graders. To our returning Eagles, welcome back. We've missed you.
SCHEDULES/NEW CLASS
Our Taft Team is working on creating our schedules for online learning. At this time, students will take 3 classes for a 9-week term. Then, students will switch to 3 additional classes for another 9 weeks. One new class that will be offered is ASB or Associated Student Body. This is a class where students will develop their leadership potential and help build school spirit. TAFT MIDDLE SCHOOL VIRTUAL WELCOME WEBINAR
We will be hosting a Virtual Welcome Webinar on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, via Zoom. Our English session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Our session in Spanish will be begin at 6:30 p.m. Our Zoom code is 8589352650. We hope you can join us!
FAMILY WELCOME WEEK 2020-2021
Family Welcome Week is 8/31/20 - 9/4/2. Welcome Week training modules will be available for families starting on August 31, 2020. The self-paced training modules are intended to launch a successful start of Online Learning and equip you with skills and information needed to support online learning at home. The modules are district created sessions that allow you to access anytime for flexible scheduling. Some of the modules included are: Signing into Your Chromebook, Chromebook Device Care, and Signing Into Online Learning Platforms through Clever. There are also Health & Safety Requirement Modules with informational guidelines on topics such as Handwashing, Masks, and Information on the Transfer of COVID-19. Additional Welcome Week topics include: Social Emotional & Wellness and Family Resources. You will receive more information about these modules soon.
TEXTBOOKS, CHROMEBOOKS AND WIFI
7th and 8th grade students may pick up textbooks and materials on Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday August 26, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 6th grade students may pick up textbooks and materials on Thursday, August 27, and Friday August 28, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During this time, Taft Staff will also issue Chromebooks to 6th grade students. 7th and 8th graders who did not check out computers last year should contact Ms. Enrique as soon as possible. All students and families who come on campus shall adhere to social distancing and safety protocols. Face coverings are required while on campus.
The district will continue to provide a parent hotline for technology issues and concerns. It operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Their phone number is 619-732-1400.
COMMUNICATION
Our school office will remain closed during online learning and services will primarily take place electronically. You will soon receive a Taft Student Handbook with updated contact information. At this time, the best way to communicate with our staff is through electronic mail.
ENROLLMENT AND UPDATING CONTACT INFORMATION
Returning students or students enrolling from San Diego Unified School District elementary schools DO NOT need to fill out an enrollment card for the 2020-21 school year. All this information has been rolled over in PowerSchool. Please log into the Parent Portal to confirm that your demographic information is correct and updated.
