PBE Families,

Mid-October is upon and we have three important items to report on this week:

1.  PBE STRONG Contribution Drive 💪🏻now through October 30! Thank you to those who have already contributed. We have raised close to $5,000 but are still far from our goal of $13,000. By contributing, you are helping PBE students, teachers, and community benefit from programs that are not offered by the district, including ongoing social/emotional support, increased technology, and teacher support due to Covid19, as well as science enrichment. A great way to include loved ones is to reach out to family, friends, and neighbors. To make a contribution, please visit www.fopbe.org. There are a number of great perks that come with your donation, including a raffle ticket for prizes and PBE STRONG gear. Any amount is appreciated and all proceeds go directly to benefit students at every grade level. See below for information on tiers and PBE Strong prizes.

2.  Our next FOPBE Meeting is this Tuesday, October 20 at 5:30 pm.  Zoom details below.  Please join us as we provide updates on the various activities going on at PBE and discuss some fun, family-friendly events for our students!

3.  Need some Halloween activities??  Look for details this week about PBE's Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Neighborhood Self-Guided Halloween Tour.  Thank you to Christin Bawa for coordinating!!

Have a great week PBE. We hope to see you at Tuesday's meeting - Zoom details:

Phase 1 Appointment Based Learning-Update

This week, were excited to welcome a small number of students and staff back onto our school campus as we began Phase 1-Appointment Based Learning. Beginning Tuesday, students visited campus each day and met with a member of the PBE team in small group and/or individual appointments. Visiting students continued to participate in their “live instruction” via Zoom with their teachers and classmates. Our team was prepared, though we were nervous and excited like we are for the first day of a new school year. We have posted signage reminding students, staff and families to maintain the 6 feet of distance from each other, wash hands and wear masks. Students met inside our classrooms- which are now all equipped with air purifiers or outside at the numerous shaded outdoor options. While we were well prepared to welcome students to campus, we made some adjustments and expect to continue to refine our practices as we add additional students for on-site appointments in the coming weeks. Although we have many students who would benefit from in-person appointment-based opportunities, we selected a very small number of students to return to campus this week.  Starting small allows us to apply a variety of policies and procedures, observe their implementation, and modify them as needed, in order to ensure for the health and safety of our community and build the necessary infrastructure for subsequent phases.

In selecting students to participate as we launch our reopening plan, we considered a variety of factors, including the following:

  • students' needs, participation in online learning, and ability to wear a mask (students must be able to wear a mask for the duration of their time on campus)
  • availability of staff, classrooms, and resources
  • ability to supervise, observe, and reflect on protocols and procedures
  • school schedules for learning and cleaning/sanitizing
  • student and staff movement patterns around campus

We look forward to inviting additional students after we successfully launch the beginning of our reopening plan and transition to subsequent phases.
