October is packed with celebrations, fall fun, and special menu treats! We know the heat can bring some extra challenges, so thank you for partnering with us as we keep things fresh, fun, and nourishing for students.
National Farm to School Month
October is National Farm to School Month! This year’s theme, “Creating Thriving Communities – Local Food in Every School,” celebrates how buying local supports our farmers, communities, and school meals. Check out our 2025-26 Farm to School Impact Report to see the impact we’re making together. Join the Virtual Nutrition Class (Oct. 7). The class will feature two guest farmer speakers, plus opportunities to sign up for salad bar spotlight seeds and request samples to taste. (finger limes, cucumbers, and kiwis).
Harvest of the Month
This month, we’re featuring California-grown kiwis! They’re high in vitamin C and a good source of fiber. Our kiwis come from various California farmers. Salad Bar Spotlight: Lettuce. Fun Fact: CA grows over 70% of the country's lettuce! The Salinas Valley is famously known as the "salad bowl of the world."
California-Grown Specials
Look for California-grown jicama served in veggie cups with Tajín and chamoy at secondary sites, and California-grown grapes on the middle and high school menus.
Tuesday Treats
Tuesdays are getting a little sweeter with Rosati Italian Ice! Each 4 oz. cup has no artificial colors and no added sugar.
National School Lunch Week (Oct. 12-16)
Get ready for Cafeteria Circus: The Healthiest Show on Earth! National School Lunch Week celebrates the important role school meals play in student health, well-being, and success — and the people who make it happen every day.
Students can enjoy our Big Top Circus Salad with mango, strawberries, and blueberries on the salad bar throughout the week, plus a Ringmaster Churro Parfait on Friday, Oct. 16.
Families, join the fun! Use our NSLW resources with your students and help us celebrate school lunch.
