Graduation season is a time to celebrate. Given the tragic event that occurred in our city on Monday, some have asked what is the best way to move forward. At our schools, we will celebrate the success of our students.
To ensure all graduation and promotion ceremonies remain a safe and positive environment, we are asking all attendees to support us in following the directions of school staff, administrators, and law enforcement personnel. Each of our venues have established capacity limits for a safe environment, and we ask for your cooperation, patience, and understanding when our staff enforces those safety measures.
It’s important for you to know:
- Every year, including this one, our School Police work closely with school administrators to review safety protocols and contingency plans for every ceremony, including venue capacity, emergency procedures, anticipated attendance, traffic flow, and fire safety requirements.
- This year, due to recent events in San Diego, our district has also coordinated with regional law enforcement partners to provide additional support during graduation and promotion ceremonies. We want you to be aware of this coordination should you notice an increased law enforcement presence.
- If you see something, say something to a nearby school staff member or law enforcement officer immediately. District and school staff can be identified by official San Diego Unified or school employee identification badges. Concerns may also be reported by calling 619-291-7678 or 911.
Our focus remains on celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our students in an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and respected.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
