We are incredibly proud to celebrate the students from Millennial Tech, LMEC, and Clark Middle School who competed this week in a major regional Aerial Drone competition!
It was a packed house with 96 teams traveling from across the Western US, Canada, Hawaii, and American Samoa to compete. A huge shout-out goes to the Daygo Ducks from Millennial Tech, who soared into the top tier, ranking 9th among all middle school teams in the region!
Drones require more than flying skills. Our students had to show off their coding skills, strategic teamwork, and clear communication to navigate complex obstacle courses. This was the first time San Diego hosted the event, and it was a true community effort. We want to thank the City of San Diego’s Parks and Recreation Department, the San Diego Parks Foundation, and our own Instructional Tech and Science teams for making this happen. Lots of thanks to the Millenial Tech students and staff for volunteering to set up, train staff and provide assistance during the event.
Currently, more than 15 schools in our district offer drone programs. Whether through Science, CTE, or ROTC classes, our students are gaining hands-on experience in a field that is exploding with career opportunities. We can’t wait to see where these young pilots go next!
