Next week, San Diego Unified high schools will take part in Workplace Readiness Week, a learning opportunity designed to help students better understand their rights as workers. During the week, students will explore why workers have rights, what those rights are, how they were established, and what happens when those rights are violated.
These lessons are part of California Education Code 49110.5 and will be incorporated into regular History-Social Science classes for students in grades 11 and 12. Workplace Readiness Week is scheduled for April 27- May 1, with one lesson each day.
Families are encouraged to ask their students what they are learning and talk together about workplace rights, responsibilities, and preparing for future jobs. More information, including the daily lesson topics and resources, is available on the district’s Workplace Readiness page.
