East Village Middle College High School Earns 2026 California Distinguished School Recognition
San Diego Unified is proud to share that East Village Middle College High School has been named a 2026 California Distinguished School, one of the state’s highest honors for public schools.
Announced by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond, the California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes schools that distinguish themselves through exceptional student outcomes and strong support for student learning and achievement. In 2026, 408 middle and high schools across California were selected for the recognition.
Schools are identified through the California School Dashboard and recognized for excellence in areas such as academic achievement, closing achievement gaps for historically underserved student groups, and overall student success. To qualify, schools must also meet statewide standards for assessment participation and demonstrate positive indicators related to school climate, attendance, and discipline.
East Village Middle College High School’s recognition highlights the school’s commitment to helping students succeed through high expectations, strong instruction, and meaningful opportunities that prepare them for college, career, and the future. The honor reflects the dedication of the entire school community and the impact of student-centered learning in San Diego Unified.
East Village Middle College High School will be recognized at the statewide awards ceremony on April 24, 2026, in Anaheim.
