Students Honor Dr. King's Legacy
For nearly five decades, Knox Middle School’s annual MLK tribute has empowered San Diego Unified students to carry Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message forward through peace, justice, and equality. The event—now in its 49th year—spotlights student voice with performances, artwork, and a community march led by young people, featuring groups like the marching band and cheerleaders.
Students of all ages return year after year to take part, showing how this long-running tradition continues to inspire youth advocacy, civic engagement, and the next generation of leaders. This year, the Board of Education also passed a resolution recognizing the program’s lasting impact and commitment to keeping Dr. King’s vision alive through education.
Participating schools this year included Lincoln High School, Chavez Elementary, Porter Elementary, Baker Elementary, Balboa Elementary and Lewis Middle School.
