Franklin Elementary School recently welcomed a special guest as ABC 10News Storytime made a stop on campus. News anchor Melissa Messija read from the humorous “Catty & Batty” book series, engaging more than 70 students with lively storytelling and plenty of laughs.

The visit was about more than just one story time. Hundreds of new books were given to students to take home, helping them build personal libraries and continue reading beyond the school day. Principal Heather Bice shared that literacy is a core value at Franklin, and the event aligned perfectly with the school’s commitment to helping every child grow as a reader.

Students chose from titles selected to match their age, grade level, and cultural backgrounds—an approach research shows makes it much more likely they will actually read and enjoy their books. Each student also received a special backpack from North Island Credit Union to carry their new reads home.
