At Bird Rock Elementary, community service starts early. The B1 “Starfish” first graders and their families are participating in monthly community outreach projects, bringing the school’s motto—“Be Part of Your World and Not Just In It”—to life.
Each month, students focus on a new way to give back. Recent projects have included saying “thank you” to local firefighters and police officers, delivering cards and appreciation to first responders who help keep the community safe.
Students also visited a nearby senior center, where residents were excited to see the children in costume. Throughout the year, the class returns to sing, read, and spend time with seniors, building intergenerational connections and brightening their day.
In another project, students are collecting items for “Angel Soldier Stockings,” supporting service members with care packages filled with thoughtful essentials and treats. And this is just the beginning—Bird Rock Elementary has a full list of outreach activities planned for the rest of the year.
Through these monthly projects, Bird Rock’s youngest learners are discovering the power of empathy, gratitude, and community—one act of kindness at a time.
