At Pacific Beach Elementary (PBE), growing strong students also means growing strong leaders. That’s why the school integrates The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into daily classroom life and schoolwide culture, teaching students skills like goal setting, teamwork, and responsibility.
Each month, PBE recognizes students who consistently demonstrate one of the habits through its Penguin Pride Awards. Recently, the school celebrated 41 students in TK–5th grade who embodied Habit #2: “Begin with the End in Mind”—students who set goals, make plans, and think about how they want things to turn out before they begin.
Earlier in the year, students were also honored for Habit #1: “Be Proactive – I’m in charge of me!”, which encourages them to choose their actions, attitudes, and moods, take responsibility, and do the right thing even when no one is looking.
By teaching and celebrating all 7 Habits for Happy and Successful Kids, Pacific Beach Elementary is helping students build lifelong skills in leadership, empathy, and self-management—one Penguin Pride Award at a time.
