Dear San Diego Unified Families,
I am honored to begin serving the San Diego Unified community as your Acting Superintendent. As we start this new journey together, I want to share my strong commitment to our mission and values. My journey as an educator began a long time ago, inspired by a simple drawing I made in kindergarten. In that drawing, I wrote, "One day I will be a teacher." That dream has guided me throughout my career, and I approach our work together with great passion and dedication.
Commitment to Stability and Improvement
Our main goal is to create a stable and joyful learning environment that helps our students succeed. I am dedicated to making sure every student feels they belong and has the chance to do well. This means not only keeping things steady but also always looking for ways to improve. I promise to work hard to make sure we are always doing what's best for our students.
Belief in the Collective
I strongly believe in the power of working together as a team. Our community, including the students, plays a big role in raising and caring for our children. Sometimes, our busy lives make it hard to really listen and understand each other. I am committed to supporting our educators in finding new ways to have conversations that allow us to use our collective wisdom. By doing this, we can better work together and share our knowledge.
Belief in Listening and Feedback
I also believe in the importance of listening to each other and giving feedback. Your opinions matter, and we need to work together to raise our young people. I promise not only to listen to the feedback our schools receive but also to take action based on what we hear. When we feel heard and see the impact of our voices, we are more motivated to work together. I am committed to creating a culture where we all share leadership and stay open and curious in our interactions.
Belief in Joyful Learning
Lastly, I believe in the power of learning with joy. Learning is social and driven by curiosity, and it’s important to create an environment where joy and belonging are part of our culture. Even when we disagree, we can grow if we engage in a safe and supportive way. I am dedicated to building a healthy school culture where everyone feels valued, connected, and empowered.
I also want to confirm that our school board and leaders fully support our efforts. We are united in our commitment to serving our community and students with dedication and purpose. This alignment ensures that our strategies and initiatives are cohesive and supportive of our shared goals, helping every student succeed.
In closing, I want to express my deep gratitude for your partnership and support. Thank you for allowing me to be part of the team that educates and loves our children and educators alongside our families.
