No employee contribution is required for eligible employees in paid status in monthly salaried positions of half-time or more. The district pays the full cost of the medical, dental and vision plans selected for these employees and their eligible dependents. The district also pays the cost of basic life insurance for eligible employees.
The amount that an employee may be required to pay for coverage may change annually. These amounts are announced during the Open Enrollment period held in October/November. Any required employee contribution is made through automatic payroll deduction on a ten-month basis, September through June.
Eligible employees may also choose to participate in a Health Care and/or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
An active employee, in paid status, in a monthly-salaried position of half-time or more is eligible for medical, dental, vision, employee assistance program and life insurance coverage. Employees, in paid status, in a monthly-salaried position of half-time or more may enroll in district-sponsored benefits plans within 31 days of either: a) the paid service begin date, b) the acceptance of offer date, or c) the contract signature date whichever is the later.
IMPORTANT - Effective Date of Coverage
An employee’s coverage under the district-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans becomes effective as outlined below:
Employees hired and having a start date between the 1st and 15th of the month — Benefits will become effective on the first day of the month following the first day of paid service in a monthly salaried position of at least half-time or more. EXAMPLE: An employee starting on Aug. 10 would become eligible for benefits on Sept. 1.
Employees hired and starting work after the 15th of the month — Benefits will become effective the first day of the second full month of paid service in a monthly salaried position of at least half-time or more. EXAMPLE: An employee starting on Aug. 26 would become eligible for benefits on Oct. 1.
Coverage for Eligible Dependents who are included on an employee's enrollment form becomes effective the same date as the employee's coverage. All enrollment forms must be received in the Employee Benefits Office no later than 31 days from the date the employee becomes eligible. If the forms are not received by the 31st day, employees and their dependents will have to wait until the next Open Enrollment period to apply and benefits will be effective Jan. 1 of the following year.
