Birney Elementary kicked off a new fall tradition with its very first Fall Cali-Q BBQ, bringing together more than 700 students, families, and staff for an afternoon of food, fun, and community connection.
The BBQ meal was proudly prepared and served by San Diego Unified’s own Cali-Coast Café, creating a festive atmosphere filled with laughter, joy, and plenty of smiling faces across campus.
In addition to the barbecue, families received a healthy—and tasty—bonus thanks to the district’s Farm to School program. More than 800 fresh avocados were shared for families to take home and enjoy, highlighting San Diego Unified’s commitment to fresh, nutritious food and community wellness.
The success of the Fall Cali-Q BBQ reflects Birney Elementary’s strong school spirit and dedication to creating welcoming events where families can connect, celebrate, and feel part of the Birney community.
