Six Area C Schools Named America's Healthiest Schools
Posted on 12/05/2025

Six schools in Area C have been recognized as America's Healthiest Schools, a national distinction sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and presented by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

The Area C honorees include:

  • Mission Bay High School
  • Pacific Beach Middle School
  • Bird Rock Elementary School
  • John Muir Language Academy TK-8
  • Longfellow TK-8
  • TRACE Alternative School

The recognition honors schools that are leading the way in supporting the physical, mental, and social-emotional well-being of students, staff, and families. America's Healthiest Schools is one of the nation's longest-running recognition programs honoring schools for creating healthier learning environments. Schools are evaluated across nine categories, including nutrition and food access, physical activity, staff well-being, social-emotional climate, and family engagement.

"Being recognized as one of America's Healthiest Schools is a testament to the intentional work happening across our district every single day," said Dr. Fabi Bagula, Superintendent of San Diego Unified School District. "Wellness is foundational to learning, and when we care for the whole child—physically, mentally, and emotionally—students are better able to grow, connect, and succeed."

This recognition reflects San Diego Unified's ongoing commitment to improving student wellness, a key Student Achievement Goal for the district. Across the district, 35 schools were honored this year, including four that earned the top All-Star distinction for excelling in all nine topic areas measured by the program.
